Volunteer for Healing Garden planting day

Thursday, May 23rd, 2013

Spring is here and the flower and shrub beds in the Healing Garden, located next to Riverwood Healthcare Center in Aitkin, need tending as new growth emerges. Volunteers are urgently needed to help plant flowers in the Healing Garden on Wed., May 29, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.  Bring your gardening gloves and a hand hoe.

“It’s a beautiful setting to work in and you can see the positive results of your efforts each time you visit the garden,” says Jodie Johnson, Riverwood Foundation director. “ Last year the Healing Garden got a facelift, creating more green space and adding plants and shrubs.”

The Healing Garden is supported and grows through donations. Memorials and honorariums can be provided through personalized pathway bricks, living flowers, trees and flowerbeds,  benches and lampposts.

McGregor area rises to Floe challenge

Friday, December 7th, 2012

Wayne & Janelle Floe with Easton & Ramsi

Thanks to Wayne and Janelle Floe and the generosity of the people of the McGregor area, Riverwood Foundation has raised another $25,000 toward its McGregor area goal of $125,000 for the Better Together Capital Campaign to support Riverwood Healthcare Center’s hospital expansion.

In June, FLOE International challenged the McGregor area community with a matching gift of $12,500, which was matched for a total donation of $25,000 from the Floe family. This brings the total raised from McGregor individuals and organizations to $100,044. Recent donations have included $3,000 from the McGregor Lions Club and $1,000 from the Tamarack Sno-Flyers.

“We are so grateful for the enthusiastic support from the McGregor community as well as others in Aitkin County and the surrounding area,” says Jodie Johnson, Riverwood Foundation director.  “Every dollar invested in our local health system will pay dividends for years to come in terms of enhanced patient-centered care close to home.”

The total amount raised for the $2.2 million Better Together Capital Campaign is now $1.8 million with just $24,956 to reach the $125,000 goal for the McGregor area.

John Slettom

John Slettom, executive director of Riverwood Foundation, in affiliation with Riverwood Healthcare Center, announced his retirement this week.

“I’ve been blessed to end my 40-year career in the nonprofit world at Riverwood, working with great colleagues and volunteers who are dedicated to a great mission of advancing health care services locally,” Slettom says. “For the past two years, I have dedicated much time and energy to the Better Together Capital Campaign to raise funds for the $21 million hospital expansion and renovations in Aitkin.
