Zumba fitness classes in Aitkin, McGregor

Looking for a way to burn some calories? Join the party!

Zumba™ is a fusion of Latin and international music and dance that creates a dynamic, exciting, effective cardio workout. These fun, easy routines feature interval aerobic training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body as you dance. Zumba fitness classes are growing in popularity and now there are several options locally.

In Aitkin, Riverwood physician Dr. Jessica Hodson is leading a new Zumba class through Aitkin Community Education. The class meets on Thursday evenings from 7 to 8 PM atWestside Church on Highway 210. The cost is $2 per class. To register, call (218) 927-7130.

In McGregor, McGregor Community Education is sponsoring a Zumba class that meets every Monday at 3:40 PM and Wednesday at 4:30 PM at the McGregor High School Auditorium stage. Buy a punch card for $18 good for 6 sessions or pay a $5 drop-in fee.

BINGO wellness drawing winners

Riverwood Healthcare has awarded prizes to four local residents who registered for the BINGO – Win with Wellness quarterly drawing at local businesses and events in Aitkin, Garrison and McGregor.

Mike Dellwo of the Garrison area and Pat Williams of Aitkin each won a $100 gift certificate for fitness-related purchases at their choice of ShopKo or Bill’s Sportsman’s Service in Aitkin. This prize also came with a free consultation for an exercise plan with Marc Carley, a registered physical therapist and athletic trainer at Riverwood who sees patients in Aitkin and Garrison.

Williams, who has recently had surgery for a heart valve replacement, had his free exercise consultation on Oct. 30. He commented: “I want to strengthen my legs and Marc showed me some exercises to improve my leg muscle tone. Now it’s up to me to follow through. I’ve also been learning how to get back into shape from a series of cardiac therapy treatments in Riverwood’s cardiopulmonary department.”

Other winners included Lindsey Chenevert of Aitkin and Hannah Aldrich of McGregor, who each won a BINGO wellness t-shirt and water bottle.
