Riverwood Healthcare offers several support groups for specific health conditions to help individuals gain information and connect with community resources. All of the groups are offered at no cost.
Breast Cancer Support Groups
Sister-to-Sister
Breast cancer patients get together to share experiences in their journey with breast cancer. Discussion is facilitated by an experienced breast cancer survivor with support from Riverwood’s Breast Health Care Coordinator. The group invites guest speakers on topics of interest several times a year.
The group meets monthly on the fourth Monday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Riverwood Healthcare Center in Aitkin.
Mens’s: Partners in the Fight Against Breast Cancer
Partners of breast cancer patients get together to share experiences and offer each other social support. Riverwood’s Breast Health Care Coordinator participates in the discussions.
The group meets every other month on the fourth Monday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Riverwood Healthcare Center in Aitkin.

Diabetes Support Group
Riverwood’s Diabetes Education staff facilitates a support group for those living with diabetes, along with their family and friends, in Aitkin and McGregor. This is a chance to meet others who are living with diabetes and to gain knowledge to help you better manage your disease.
The Aitkin group meets at Riverwood Healthcare Center on the second Thursday of the month from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. The McGregor group meets at the Riverwood McGregor Clinic on the first Wednesday of the month from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.

Grief Support Group
Riverwood Healthcare sponsors an 4- to 6-week Grief Support Group, held on Thursday evenings several times a year. The group meets from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. at Riverwoo Healthcare Center, Support Services wing, Conference Romm E in Aitkin. The group meetings are presented by facilitators with experience in bereavement counseling and support. The meetings include designated topics and guided discussions. Joint Replacement Pre-Surgery Class
Those who are considering or scheduled for a total joint replacement for hip or knee are invited to attend a 2-hour class to learn about what to expect before, during and after surgery. Representatives from hospital nursing, rehabilitation, surgical services, social services and others explain the steps a patient can expect to go through as well as support that is offered through the entire process.
Classes are offered on the second Friday of the month from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Riverwood Healthcare Center in Aitkin.

Prenatal Education Classes
Riverwood offers a class for pregnant women in their third trimester and their labor coach. They learn breathing and relaxation techniques to use during labor and delivery.
Classes are offered, at no cost, five times throughout the year on Tuesdays, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Riverwood Healthcare Center in Aitkin.
